What is Nourishment?
When most people think about nourishment they think about the food that they will put into their mouth to nourish their body. While I agree that food is a very important part of nourishment, there are 8 areas of nourishment that are considered to be important for full body nourishment in the realm of Holistic Nutrition:

Food
Eating whole foods from nature whenever possible.
Taking time to eat in a peaceful and uninterrupted setting.
Being thankful for your food.
Enjoying whatever you are eating.
Eat only when you are truly hungry.
Tailoring the size of your meal to embrace these ideas. This may mean eating smaller more frequent meals, choosing to eat some fruit or vegetables in a quiet place for 10 minutes before returning to what you need to do knowing that you can return for a “full meal” in an hour or so once the task at hand is complete.
Emotional Poise
Having the mental clarity and stability to maintain your composure at all times
Learning to respond rather than react in any situation
Choosing to pick you battles, where and when
Sleep
Get 7 – 8 hours quality sleep a night
Try to be in bed before midnight, 10:00pm is best
Your body detoxes itself between the hours of 10:00pm and 2:00am, sleeping as much during this timeframe is essential for your overall health and wellbeing
No electronics for an hour before you go to bed, the blue light in the display limits the production of melatonin needed for a good and restful sleep
Water
Drink pure filtered water
Consume 8 – 10 cups of water a day
Learn to know when your body needs more hydration due to activity, illness, environmental factors
Activity
Be active in your day
Take brief 5 – 10 minute walks and stretches throughout your day if you are sedentary in your job
Walk in nature
Find an activity that you enjoy and participate in it a couple of times a week
Touch and Love
Humans need physical contact, build relationships to give and receive love and physical contact
Seek out relationships where you can bring love and joy to those who really need a boost
Conduct yourself in a way where your love and joy will shine on anyone you meet
Sun
Our bodies need exposure to the sun’s rays to absorb Vitamin D
Take time each day to spend 10 – 15 minutes in the sunlight, without any sunblock or clothing that will inhibit the sun hitting as much of your body surface as possible
For those of us in the Northern Clime’s it is necessary to supplement with Vitamin D because we do not get enough daylight hours or strength from the sun in our late Autumn and Winter months
A Daylight lamp can help with the mood factors that can evolve from lack of sunlight
Breathe
Make time in your day to stop, relax and take 4 – 6 deep breathes
This is great do to in times of stress
It allows our body and our brain to take a brief “time-out” and will provide a sense of calm
As a society we have so many stressors bombarding us all day every day, learning to stop and breathe is a great tool to combat this
